Mother Goose, Old King Cole


Old King Cole is a British nursery rhyme first attested in 1708. Though there is much speculation about the identity of King Cole, it is unlikely that he can be identified reliably as any historical figure. Denslow's Mother Goose: being the old familiar rhymes and jingles of Mother Goose. The figure of Mother Goose is the imaginary author of a collection of fairy tales and nursery rhymes. William Wallace Denslow (May 5, 1856 - March 29, 1915) was an American illustrator and caricaturist remembered for his work in collaboration with author L. Frank Baum, especially his illustrations of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Frederic W. Goudy (March 8, 1865 - May 11, 1947 in Marlborough-on-Hudson) was an American printer, artist and type designer whose typefaces include Copperplate Gothic, Goudy Old Style and Kennerley. Illustrated by William Wallace Denslow, hand-lettered by Frederic William Goudy, 1901.
