Laser eye surgery. Surgeon carrying out excimer laser refractive surgery on a patient's eyes. The surgeon here is using a micro-cutting device to make a circular incision on the top of the cornea. The flap is lifted and the laser acts for a few seconds to correct the defect. The cornea is then sealed shut again. Excimer laser refractive surgery uses an excimer laser, a type of laser suitable for use on human tissue, to correct the refractive state of the eye.
