The Monument for Historical Change – collection of fragments from historical monuments at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin The pieces of this unusual memorial originate from historical periods and political systems and seem to question the existence, interpretation and deterioration of historical monuments. A statue of Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I stands on the monument’s edge across from an an enlarged copy of a commemorative stone honoring Herbert Baum’s antifascist resistance group. In the centre, a pedestal of the political monument The Caller (Der Rufer) which was installed on the Straße des 17. Juni stands empty possibly representing criticism of the accounts of the superiority of the West. The steps that lead to the top of the pedestal are reproductions from the Memorial for Members of the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War. The fragments are is enclosed in a wall that was built for a Märchenbrunnen (fountain of fairy tales) in 1913. The collection is completed by an addition of two traffic bollards.
