Polish civilians murdered in the Wola massacre by the Dirlewanger Brigade, Warsaw, August 1944. This unit of the SS was led by Oskar Dirlewanger and was composed of convicted criminals. Even among the SS he was considered as particularly barbaric. The brigade assisted in the execuion of around 100,000 Polish residents of Warsaw, most notably in the appalling violence inflicted in the Wola Massacre.
