The companys brakes have been in continuous use onsome of the single and double truck cars of the Milwaukee ElectricRailway & Light Company for fourteen months and it was the in-tention to ship one or two of these cars to St. Louis to be run on thetracks during the convention, but the difference in gauge did not. Chris-tensen, the mechanical engineer and representative of the companyat St. Louis, is one of the pioneers in the street car air brake field andclaims to be the first to construct a thoroughly dustproof, selfcontained air pump for this work. The company claims to havemade great advances in air brakes and appliances and believes thatit has a system that will meet every objection heretofore broughtup against the use of air brakes for street cars. It is now preparedto supply this apparatus under written guarantee both as to relia-bility and cost of repairs. The National Carbon Company, of Cleveland, O., had a veryattractive exhibit in the southeastern corner of the hall. Thecompany manufactures electric light carbons, battery carbons, car-bon brushes for dynamos and motors, smelting carbons, etc., andexhibited a wide variety of these different forms of carbons.
