Baby Fer-de-Lance (Bothrops asper) in Ecuador

A baby Fer-de-Lance (a venomous pitviper) is handled carefully to show its characteristics. It uses its yellow tail as a lure, wiggling it to mimic a worm until an unsuspecting animal comes within striking distance. This snake causes the most deaths of any venomous snake in Latin America due to its tendency to come into houses and urban areas.
