We are living in an age that is not keeping faith with thepast. Many of our spiritual treasures are meanly tradedaway. Our religious birthright is sold for a mess of pottageof pleasure. Remember those who as elders and ministers have servedthis church, recall the children they taught and sent atcrushing cost to find a higher education at Princeton,Wilson and other colleges, and resolve that, God helpingyou, the old faith and the old training shall not be givenup in this time of automobiles and picture shows for thetrifles and trinkets of a shallow life. 32 HISTORY OF PATH VALLEY. It was my privilege to be here at several celebra-tions, the twenty-fifth of my fathers pastorate and againthe fortieth; but none will be more memorable than thisone, observed with so much enthusiasm in both branchesof the old historic Church of the Valley. The fact that thisis my own birthplace also, and that for the first time inmore than thirty-five years I am back at my birthplace onthis day. lends additional interest to the occasion for kind old lady who declared she had not seen me since thewar, during which I was born, kept eyeing me very closelyand in a few moments said: Well, Jimmie, you havntchanged much.
