UNIFORM OUTPUT WAVEGUIDE . MAGNETRON RESONATOR SYSTEM TRANSFORMINGSECTION. Fig. 30.—An example of a type of waveguide output circuit. It is representative of thetype of coupling of Fig. 29 {d). Other types of resonator systems may be used (compareFig. 26), and the transforming section, for example, may be of dumbbell-shaped crosssection rather than of rectangular cross section as shown. The type of magnetron output circuit represented schematically by Fig. 29(d) is the so-called waveguide output. Here one of the resonators is brokeninto by means of a sUt as shown in Fig. 30. Attached to this slit is a trans-forming section which feeds directly into the load waveguide. The im- 234 BELL SYSTEM TECHNICAL JOURNAL pedance, R, at the resonator presented by the output circuit must be characteristic impedance, Zo, of the waveguide is large. The trans-former usually consists of a quarter wavelength section of characteristicmpedance equal to the geometric mean of R and Zo, \^RZo ■ The vacuumseal is made by a dielectric window in the waveguide.
