The Bulls-eye Condensek. The simplest form of condenser or lightcollector is known as the bulls-eyecondenser (Fig. 700). This is a single plano-convex lens mounted on a stand with aball bearing at the top and a sliding rod,so that it may be placed accurately inthe best position for concentrating thelight on the object. It is sometimes jective ; with the incandescent light itserves to eliminate the structure of themantle. The aplanatic bulls-eye condenser(Fig. 702) is a doublet (Mr. E. M. Nelsons),which gives much more brilliant illumina-tion without so much spherical aberration. Stage and Sub-stage Coxdexseks,Diaphragms, etc. The bulls-eye condenser cannot be usedalone for illumination when high powersare employed; for these some form ofstage or substage condenser has to be 532 THE BOOK OF PHOTOGHAFHY. em
