Iron meteorite fragment. Fragment of an iron meteorite, a type of meteorite that originates from the core of protoplanets that were created and destroyed in the early history of the solar system. This sample weighs kilograms and is from a meteorite that fell near Luchegorsk, Russia on 12th February 1947, leaving a smoke trail around 32 km long that remained in the sky for several hours.
