The business for Valentine's day was not marked by any special features, except, perhaps, the sale of more than the usual number of plants with ap- propriate trimmings. The volume of business was slightly greater than last year. The stock was excellent in qual- ity and sufficient in quantity, the de- mand being hard on the violet supply, as usual. Cut flowers were sold mostly in ordinary arrangements, not much ex- citement being evidenced over fancy boxes. Trade conditions are good, though there is little that is unusual going on. There have lately been sev- eral occasions when a prominent funer- al has made things more than interest- ing for the stores. The stock exhibited is of good quality and assortment and is commanding good prices. The weather has remained compara- tively mild for February, which is a relief after the extreme cold of Janu- ary. This winter seems • to be marked for an unusual quantity of snow, and as the humor or this community re- flects somewhat the humor of the sur- rounding agricultural population, we are willing to put up with the inconven- ience underfoot for the good that is to follow. As most of the florists here rely on motorcycles for the majority of their deliveries, there is a united hope that the streets will not get much worse, as a slimy ooze seems to appear on the pavements, regardless of clean- ing. The extreme cold of January made things inconvenient for the grow- ers who kept bulb flats outdoors and who had taken only the usual precau- tion against freezing. Most of the flats were froz
