Jan Hus (1369-1415). Czech theologian and philosopher. Reformer excommunicated in 1410 for propagating the doctrines of Wycliffe. In 1414 he attended the Council of Constance, where he was tried and condemned to the stake as a heretic. This unleashed the Hussite uprising (1419-1434), antecedent of the Wars of Religion. On 6 July 1415 he was burnt at the stake for heresy. Miniature.
