View NW of Orwell standing stones, Kinross, Scotland, UK, two whinstone boulders which formed the focus of cremation burials in the Bronze Age. Burial cists & cremation deposits were ploughed up in the field during the C19th. Excavations in 1972, prior to re-erecting the fallen smaller (W) stone, discovered a cremation deposit to its S. The pit for the E stone contained an upper & a lower cremation deposit separated by a flat slab. Each deposit contained the remains of several individuals along with dog & pig bones. A further cremation deposit was found on the lip of the SE side of the stone hole.
