Admiral Mitsumasa Yonai, after becoming Minister of the Imperial Japanese Navy, was chosen in 1940 to be Prime Minister of the Japanese war time government. After a very long and distinguished Naval career, his time as Prime Minister lasted only six months. Later, after his retirement, the Emperor called him back to service.
