Cologne Cathedral was built was built to house the relics of the Three Magi, under the direction of Archbishop Conrad von Hochstaden. Construction of the present Gothic church began in August 15th, 1248 and completed in 1880. In 1996, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO world heritage list of culturally important sites. Seen is the west facade's main portal, illustrates the salvation before the crucifixion. Also seen are the jambs sculptures depicting figures from the period of salvation and the pointed archivolts, depicting seated figures from the Old Testament.
