Hirosaki Neputa Festival in Aomori Japan Asia


Every August the Neputa Matsuri Festival is held with some sixty ornate Neputa-floats decorated as lanterns and painted with the images of famous samurai warriors are paraded through the city streets. This festival began in 1593 and has remained unchanged since the end of the Edo peoriod in the mid-19th century. The drawings on the Neputa Matsuri Festival lanterns are detailed and arnate.
