For cows they are equal to Mangels; horses eat them well and when fed on them are ncalthy. They are very good for table use until about as large as a goose egg; after they get larger the lower part is fibrous but good for stock. To harvest, cut off close below the bulb with an adz or sharp mattock. They will keep better than any other vegetable. After October 1st the lower leaves may be stripped off and fed to cows or calves without injury to the bulbs. They are very hardy and if planted on good ground as directed, they will produce 30 to 90 tons per acre. I raised one ton on a row 24 rods ;.
