At the Panama-Pacific InternationalExposition they were employed to admirable advantage. In itsdecorative quality, a mural should possess that peculiar fitness to itssurroundings, to the nearby architecture and color that may beobserved in some magnificent tessellated doorway or in an exquisiteportal reproducing the craftsmanship of ages gone. Yet for all itsformalism, the mural should be a jewel, rich in color, shining and lus-trous, expressing the mentality of its author and giving the spirit andfeeling of the scene or design he presents without adhering too closelyto any mathematical reproduction or formula.
