The results for the cylin-drical and barrel shapes were also very uniform and ran veryclosely parallel. As shown in this diagram, the chill bar, on thewhole, appears to be superior in strength to the two latter shapesas cast in sand. Fig. 6 consists of two diagrams showing the results of tensiletests of the cast-to-size shape and the chill bar. The chill bar hasa tendency to both high tensile strength and ductility at both thelower and higher range of casting temperatures and shows someuniformity of results in the favorable casting zone of temperatures1120° to 1270° C (2048° to 2318° F).
