Remains of the wheel of a chariot as found in the pits of the Emperor Jingdi at the Han Yang Ling Museum in Xian in China.


The wheel of a chariot etched into earth the wood the wheel was made of has largely deteriorated and what s left is the shape called an organic remain by archeologists after it was placed in a tunnel 2000 years ago that formed one of the pits of the tumulus of Emperor Jingdi Chariots were placed at the head of the pits leading the entire state entourage to the afterlife where the emperor was supposed to continue his reign Ten pits are now open to visitors at the Han Yang Ling Museum where glass enclosures allow visitors to see the relics in the place where they were originally discovered in their half excavated state
