Fig. The operation was followed by very little constitutionaldisturbance; an abscess, which formed above the excisionwound, was opened on Oct. 18 ; the sutures were removed onthe 20th, and the ligature came away on the day between the resected surfaces had begun by Oct. 26,and by Dec. 12, the cure was sufficiently far advanced toallow the bracketed splint to be replaced by a simple mouldedpasteboard gutter, and the patient to sit up. By March, 1*74,though slight motion still existed as regarded flexion andextension, the patient was able to walk without any aid, the GO A8HHUE8T, limb being simply supported with a soap-plaster and superficial sinus, which healed very slowly, caused thepatient to he kept under observation an unusually long time,and she did not finally leave the Hospital until the summerof 1875 (nearly twenty months after the operation), previousto which she was presented at a meeting of the College, anda photograph was secured, from which the annex
