The oil car circuit breaker herewith shown, manufactured bythe Hartman Circuit Breaker Company, of Mansfield, Ohio, isdesigned to take the place of the fuse block and hood switch onthe car. It automatically opens the circuit in case of overloador short circuit, and it can be operated by hand as readily as theusual hood switch. Wilkesbarre is 15 miles south of Scrantonand is only second to that city in importance as an anthraciteshipping center. The cars are seated for fifty-two passengers, the seats being37 in. long, and the aisles 24 ins. wide. A hard-wood partitionwith glass in the upper part, separates the smoking compartmentfrom the rest of the car. The smoking compartment is 9 ft. permits of more compact and simple construction than is pos-sible with the usual magnetic blow-out type. The distinctivefeature of the circuit breaker, however, is the use of a seriesbreak, consisting of five double-break plug contacts, connectedin such manner as to give ten breaks in series.
