Idiojjathic perichon-dritis is almost always unilateral, and the diJBfuse bright-red colorshows it to be purely inflammatory, while tuberculosis, the only con-dition liable to be confounded with it, is usually bilateral andexhibits minute, scattered whitish-gray pointw on a pale gray-pinkmembrane. Palpation and inspection, and the careful study of symptoms, willshow whether the thyroid is ajBfected externally. Involvement of theinner face will be seen by the laryngeal mirror to cause a distinctswelling, wdiich so pushes forward into the laryngeal cavity near theventricular band as to narrow the breathing-space and practicallyhide the true cord. Surrounding tissues are also affected by the acute
