Miss Dix sent me to Gettys-burg battlefield, where I worked unceasingly till thewounded were all cared for and carried away. I con-tinued my hosjDital work till the last of August when, completely tired and worn out, went home to Vermontto rest, intending to return and work for the boys tillthe close of the war; but alas! that time never have not been rested from that day to this; yetnever a feeling of regret for nearly two years ofservice; I count the days spent in hospital work themost precious of my life. The suffering and untoldagonies so heroically and patiently borne by thenations heroes; my brothers; their calmness andserenity when the angel of death called to the camp-ing ground beyond the river are all most blessedmemories, and have lifted me up and above thesuffering of sickness and weakness, for many years, and I can truly thank God that I lived in those tryingdays, and was enabled to do my little for my countrys brave defenders.
