SKELETON, PELVIS

Anatomical model of the pelvis of an adult human skeleton, anterior view. Located at the base of the trunk, the pelvis articulates with both the spinal column and the lower limbs. Made up of the hip bones (iliac bones), the sacrum and the coccyx, the pelvis surrounds a wide funnel-shaped cavity, consisting of the false pelvis (base of the abdomen) and the true pelvis (where the urinary bladder and reproductive organs lie) including the pelvic cavity. Both iliac bones join together in the front to form the pubic symphysis (ochre-colored).
