Sidmouth, Devon. 2nd Aug 2018. The longest running folk event in Europe, Sidmouth Folk Week, kicked off this evening with opening band Fairport Convention. Beginning in 1955, Sidmouth Folk Week has dominated the folk scene for 63 years and now attracts ten of thousands of visitors to over 700 diverse events. Fairport Convention have been at the fore of British folk music since their first concert in 1967, and won a BBC Lifetime Achievement award in 2002. PhotoCentral/Alamy Live News
