Before the glue is applied to the joint, the parts must fitaccurately; otherwise the pressure of the handscrewwill be of little service. A piece of wood should belaid between the work and the screw to prevent injuryto the surface of the article, and also to distribute thepressure more equally. See Chap. IV., p. 119.
