WOODWARD. The family of Woodward dates back to an early periodin the history of the settlement of the English colonies inthis country. On their arrival they separated, a portionsettling in New York and New Hampshire, while otherssought a home in Connecticut. Ephraim Woodward wasa native of Windsor, Conn., and on becoming of age visitedNew Hampshire, made the acquaintance of and marriedMiss Lucy, daughter of Ithimar Woodward, a distant rela-tive of his family. He finally located at Lyndboro, inwhich the present subject of this sketch was born, , 1820, being the youngest in a family of four family being in limited circumstances, Epliraim, whilequite young, engaged as a farm-hand by the monlii, wliichoccupation he followed until twenty-five years of age, when,in 1854, with his accumulations he purchased an interestin milk-trade at Lowell, Mass.
