This photograph, taken on October 2, 1918, shows an important crossroads in the Argonne Woods near Montfaucon during World War One. A vital switchboard, installed by the 112th field signal battalion, is visible on the scene. The switchboard connects the regiments with division and corps headquarters, serving as a crucial means of communication. During an emergency, 2nd Lt. Edward E. French of the 52nd telegraph battalion acted as the operator. The location served as Headquarters for the 32nd Division. This photograph was passed by censor, but the specific date is unknown.
