There are still threeIroquois reservations within fifty miles of Buffalo, and one ofthe chief monuments of the city is a statue of the great chiefRed Jacket in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Buffalo was finally captured by the British in 1813 and thevillage burned ; but it was rapidly rebuilt, and the next Julythe Americans crossed the river, captured Fort Erie, marcheddown the river, and won the battle of Chippewa, and fought thedesperate engagement ofLundys Lane, wherethe victory was.
