The tendon is enclosed withinthe synovial membrane which is prolonged upon it into the groovebut the cavity here is closed. Where the subscapularis tendon liesover the capsule there is a bursa and its cavity and synovial mem-brane are continuous with the joint cavity. The subdeltoid, orsubacromial bursa does not communicate with the joint cavity. Movements.—This joint is capable oi flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, rotation and circumduction. THE ELBOW JOINT (ARTICULATIO CUBITI) The elbow joint is of the ginglymus, or hinge variety. The bonesconcerned are the humerus, ulna and radius. The humeroulnararticulation comprises the trochlea of the humerus and the semilunarnotch of the ulna. The humeroradial articulation comprises thecapitulum of the humerus and the head of the radius. The capsule surrounds the joint and is made up of individualligaments of varying thickness that join so as to make a completeinvestment of the joint. The ventral ligament (lig. anterius) consists of vertical, obUque andtransverse fibers. It is attached, proximally, to the bone justbeyond the coronoid and radial fossae of the humerus and, distally,to the margin of the coronoid process of the ulna and the annularligament of the radioulnar articulation.
