It is 250 miles n. n. e. of Jerusalem, and is si-tuated in the valley of the Orontes, about half waybetween its source, near Baalheh and the bend whichit makes at Jisr Hadid. A part of the valley of theOrontes at one time constituted the kingdom ofriamath. King Solomon took the kingdom of Hamath, andmade the city a depot for stores and supplies.
