From : Mousehole has a rich and interesting history dating back hundreds of years. It was once a very busy and bustling port city that catered to people all over Europe. There were fairs and markets held there on a weekly basis for hundreds of years. The local people would travel for days by horse and cart or by foot to buy goods at the festivals that were held in this port city. It is documented in the history of the town that during the 16th century it was home to a number of festivals attended by thousands of people. All of this changed when the Spanish came to town. In the late 16th century it was ravaged by the Spanish and almost every building save one was burned to the ground. The village was destroyed and the modern village that we see today was built in its place. If you are interested in history this is a wonderful place to visit due to this rich past.
