Hypoderma brachysporumon leaves of Pinus strobus, a, perithecium enlarged, b, ascus -^, c, ascospore -r-. From R 02 a. It clearly differs from Lop-hod, pinastri by its shorterasci and sporidia. The descrip-tion does not occur wiih Sac-cardo nor with Rehm butwith Tubeuf (02 ^). Rostrupmentions it early (83 d \ 85a ^^ 6^ 87 j; see also Dalgas88 ^), but he did not de-scribe it till 1889. Specimensof this fungus from Denmarkare already contained in Schu-machers herbarium from thebeginning of the 19th. cen-tury. Concerning its distribu-tion here and abroad see R96 q; it chiefly affects treesgrowing in meagre soil orexposed to flooding (see R88 k ^ 89 k, Helms 93). Itsasci and spores are ripe inApril; it will just as readilyattack the leaves of seedlings as those of large trees. Abies alba common. Picea excelsa very common f. inst. Tisvilde (H. ^5). Picea canadensis common. Picea sitchensis. S. Soholt (Jespersen), As-se
