Xanthine oxidase XO, sometimes XAO, is a form of xanthine oxidoreductase, a type of enzyme that generates reactive oxygen enzymes catalyze the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and can further catalyze the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid.
