Local government agencies and officials attempt to orient and help Central American migrants passing through central Mexico.
After almost a year of simmering conflict the Juan Diego Migrant shelter in the Lecheria neighborhood north of Mexico City, was symbolically closed by neighbors complaining of drugs, crime and unsanitary conditions on their streets. The Catholic Church, which runs the sanctuary for economic refugees from Central America, near the railroad lines that go north to the US border, then officially closed it on Monday July 9, 2012, leaving the migrants with no option for food or shelter in the area. A member of Grupo Beta, a Mexican government entity devoted to providing aid to migrants, talks to a group of men in the La Concha neighborhood of Tultitlan, State of Mexico, Mexico while they wait to hop a northbound freight train.
