A sand dune develops around newly-planted grass sprigs, March 21, 2010, in Dauphin Island, Alabama. Researchers at Dauphin Island Sea Lab report that Alabama is losing seagrass beds at "an alarming rate," with Mobile Bay seeing the decimation of nearly 1,400 acres of seagrass over the past few years. Worldwide, nearly a third of all seagrass has disappeared, leaving beaches vulnerable to erosion. (Photo by Carmen K. Sisson/Cloudybright)
