For early crop, sow the short-rooted varieties from the first to the middle of April, in rows 12 inches apart, and cover about y2 inch deep. For main crop, sow up to the middle of June in rows 15 to 18 inches apart. Thin out the plants to stand 3 to 4 inches apart. Carrots may be kept for Winter use in the same manner as beets. One ounce of seed will sow 100 feet of row. CHAWTENAY Slightly tap- ered, blunt-rooted variety, the earliest of the large Carrots. Excellent for home gardens and early market. Pkt., 10c; oz., 20c; hi lb., 60c. Danvers Half-Iiong*. Roots average 6 to 8 inches long, tapering to a blunt point. Productive and a good keeper. Pkt., 10c; 20c; 1/4 lb., 60c. Early Scarlet Kom. Deep orange in color; 21^ to 3 inches long. Pkt., 10c; oz., 20c; 14 60c. French Torcing- or Early Short Horn. Small, round, reddish orange roots of fine flavor. Pkt., 10c; oz., 25c; ^4 lb., 65c. Gnerande or Ozheart. Roots short and blunt, 3 to 4 inches in diameter and about 4 inches long. The best Carrot for hard, stiff soils. Pkt., 10c; oz., 20c; % lb., 60c. Half-Iiong- Iiuc or Coreless. Orange-red, blunt roots, slightly tapered. A heavy yielder. Quite similar to Danvers. Pkt., 10c; oz., 20c; hi lb., 60c. STUMP-BOOTED. Hand- some roots, almost cylindrical in shape, tender and fine quality. Pkt,, 10c; oz., 20c; V4 lb., 60c. Iiong* Orang-e. Rich orange; long, tapering roots; fine for stock feeding.
