Urea crystals, polarised light micrograph. Uric acid (urea) is an end product of nitrogen metabolism in the human body, and is found in small amounts in urine. The disease gout is associated with abnormal levels of uric acid in the urinary system. Saturation of uric acid in the blood stream may result in a form of kidney stones when the acid crystallizes into a solid inside the kidney.
