A severely injured hand 7 days after completion of a 15 hour operation.

It took two teams of surgeons at Queen Victoria Hospital, in East Grinstead, Surrey, England 15 hours to operate on this hand which was severely injured in a car accident on 11th November 2014. The photograph was taken on 19th November 2014. The hand was trapped between car and ground as the car slid along the ground resulting in multiple broken bones, damaged tendons, muscles etc and loss of a large area of skin. One finger (ring finger) was so severely damaged it could not be saved. Further operation(s) will be needed as will up to two years physiotherapy to try and get as much movement as possible back in the fingers, wrist and arm. It is impossible to say at this time how much movement and grip will eventually be possible.
