Mohammed Saiful Nazri, 3 years old, was torn from his mother's arms on Batu Ferringhi beach. The family had come from Taiping province to enjoy a New Year's picnic. The wave swallowed the child but the boy was found half an hour later on the beach, almost drowned. Mohammed has been in ICU at Penang General Hospital since the catastrophe but is now certain to recover fully . Penang's northern coast was hard hit by the tsunami that killed thousands across South Asia in December 2004.
