View W of Kilphedir Iron Age broch beside the Kilphedir Burn & overlooking the River Helmsdale in Strath of Kildonan, Sutherland, Scotland, UK. The now ruinous & rubble-strewn circular tower is built on a prominent knoll with terraces on either side defended by a deep ditch encircled by inner & outer stone ramparts. Kilournan Hill is rear R with Ben Uarie rear centre. Just below the broch to the W is a group of three hut circles, one of which has a souterrain running under its wall. There are other groups of hut circles nearby on the N hillside of the valley, occupied in the Late Bronze Age & Early Iron Age several of them have souterrains.
