Blue sky view road-improvement concrete tunnel shelter below scree slope mountains, Ruta 7, Uspallata Pass, Andes, Argentina

International Routeway 7, over the Uspallata Pass, between Argentina and Chile, is closed an average 29 days a year because of winter snows and rock-falls. So, to improve this arterial crossing of the Andes, the Argentinian Government has decided upon a series of road improvements. These include a series of passageways and tunnels and reinforced concrete shelters, consisting of a vault over the highway. The cost of improving the road crossing is estimated at 30,800,000 US dollars. A shot taken from a service bus travelling from Mendoza to Santiago.
