At the foothill of the snow-covered peaks of Sierra Nevada, within the Kankuamo Indians territory, a colorful celebration of the Christian feast of Corpus Christi is held every year. It us a Christian religious event that normally coincides with the summer solstice. Pagan Demon characters, Indian sacred places and other Pre-Columbian features are incorporated. The ritual represents an allegorical fight between the God and the Devil.“The Dance of the Devils” is an ancient tradition kept for centuries in few communities on the Colombia's Caribbean coast. Pictured: The Devils (Diablos) represent the Evil, with Juvenal Mindiola, Captain of the Devils Dance Group (Second Left). They sing and dance with hundreds of little bells tied up to their legs, wearing small mirrors on the backs, in an attempt to capture the Sun’s power.
