Paternity testing. Close-up of a man wiping a cotton swab on the inside of his cheek to take a sample of cells. The swab will be sent to a laboratory, where the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) will be extracted from the cells and sequenced. Each person's DNA is unique to them. By comparing the potential father's DNA with that of the child, half of whose DNA came from its father, the paternity of the child can be determined.
