Broken neck. Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of the neck of a 46 year old female patient with a fractured neck. The fracture is in the second vertebra (C2). This type of fracture, known as a hangman's fracture, is most often seen in car accidents where the patient wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Treatment is with stabilisation of the joint, often through surgery, followed by immobilisation.
