The Theatre Royal de la Monnaie (Koninklijke Muntschouwberg) in Brussels, Belgium. Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie / Koninklijke Muntschouwburg. Place de la Monnaie, 20 De Brouckère. (About 20 euros). Tel. 02 229 1200. This theater which hosts the National Opera of Belgium, was raised in 1817 by architect Joseph Poelaert on the ashes of Hôtel des Monnaies who had suffered a fire years earlier. It was built under a mixture of neo-Baroque, neo-Rococo and Neo-Renaissance. The auditorium was lit by the huge crystal chandelier that hangs still in the center of the vaulted ceiling. It is made of gilded bronze and Venetian glass. In 1985 it was restored almost completely, preserving the luxurious decor Louis XIV style and inagurándose the following year with a performance of Beethoven Sinfornia No. 9.
