Provincetown and the Pilgrim Monument, Cape Cod, MA seen from the beach. Ptown is LGBT friendly, see party in the foreground with gay pride flags.

The Pilgrim Monument is seen above homes along the beach in Provincetown, located at the very tip of Cape Cod, MA. Ptown as it is also affectionately known, has been LGBT friendly for decades. You can see a gathering in the foreground where the deck is festooned with rainbow, aka gay pride flags. The Pilgrim Monument built in 1892 is a Cape Cod landmark. It commemorates the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landing in the "New World" in 1620. They landed in Provincetown, at the very tip of Cape Cod and spent 5 weeks there, drafted and signed the Mayflower Compact, before sailing to Plymouth. Shown here near Labor Day, known as the shoulder season, the early fall is a great time to visit. Crowds are fewer, the water is at its warmest, and the weather is usually lovely.
