The curtain opening is aboutforty-eight feet in width by forty-one in height. There isa depth of some thirty feet below the stage, and the heightfrom the stage to the fly floor is sixty-six feet. These dis- 100 BOSTON SIGHTS. tances allow the raising and lowering of scenes withouthinges or joints, the use of which soon injures their ap-pearance. There are seven rows of side scenes, or wings,with considerable space beyond the most remote, for per-spective. The stage is provided with traps, bridges, andall imaginable contrivances for effect, and is believed tounite more improvements, and to be the best arranged ofany structure of the kind in this country. The green-room, on the level of the stage, is a decidedly comfortablelooking apartment, thirty-four by eighteen feet, neatly fin-ished and tinted, handsomely carpeted, and furnishedaround the sides with
