Making Flower Decorated Antemoro Paper from the Bark Fibre of the Havoha Tree. Ambalavao, South Madagascar, Africa.

Ambalavao, South Madagascar, Africa. Making Parchment Paper from the Bark Fibre of the Havoha Tree. Paper is produced for writing and decorative purposes, called "antemoro paper" (or "antaimoro paper"). Antemoro paper is skillfully made from crunched Havoha barks from the eastern forests. Once softened in water, the paste is smoothed on to linen trays. Each sheet is then decorated by hand with fresh wild flowers, leaves and rice kernels to beautiful designs. The paper is then left in the sun to dry.
